gateB Joins the ”Open Food Data Meets Smart Kitchen” Hackdays

Open Food Data Meets Smart Kitchen hackdays work towards a sustainable food industry.

Open Food Data Meets Smart Kitchen hackdays work towards a sustainable food industry.

The rapidly growing world population, climate change and increasingly scarce resources pose major challenges to the food industry. The United Nations expects about 9.7 billion people on the globe in 2050. According to forecasts, extreme climatic events will increase and majorly impact the sensitive agriculture industry. And according to a study by PwC/the National Intelligence Council, the world population needs 35% more food, 50% more energy and 40% more water by 2030.

To help us meet these challenges, "Business Innovation food.opendata.ch" has set itself the goal of creating a public platform with data around the food system (from seed to kitchen). Wider availability of this data should initiate entrepreneurial projects that contribute to a sustainable food industry.

To this end, opendata.ch, V-ZUG, SIX, gateB and other partners are hosting "Open Food Data Meets Smart Kitchen” Hackdays. These hackdays will take place from September 7 to 9 in Zug, Switzerland. The event will bring together engineers, developers, agricultural and nutrition experts, academics and data specialists to develop new solutions for a transparent and sustainable food system.

Participants at the Open Food Data Hackdays will form teams of 2 to 6 people to develop prototypes, then present their results. A jury of experts will pick the most promising project team to receive 6 months of financing, coaching and a relevant network.

Would you like to be part of this exciting prototyping adventure? You can sign up here.

gateB is pleased to be a partner in this important event and to contribute its knowledge in the areas of data analysis and use by participating together with a team at the hackdays!

The "Business Innovation food.opendata.ch" program was launched by the Swiss section of the Open Knowledge Foundation, which is committed to making data public, freely available and usable for greater transparency, innovation and efficiency.
